Bird id help

I was just sitting in my yard with my binoculars and saw 3 or 4 birds in the tree next door that I've never seen here. Due to the lighting here now, I couldn't see them well but they did display some unusual behavior. They would land on the tree, fly off in a circle and land again. This was a small bird, hard to tell color but I would say, greyish, with some color maybe yellow? Also looked like a black line thru the eye. I know it's not a lot of information but maybe someone would have an idea. I'm always excited to see a new bird.

They could possibly be Yellow-rumped Warblers. They are well known for flycatching for bugs during migration, exactly the behavior you are describing.

The only bird that I could guess is a Painted Bunting.
