| We have our first snowfall of the season, about 4-5 inches so far, here in Rochester. The feeders are busy! I slept in this morning, but the first thing I did when I got up was start the coffee pot (so it would be ready when I came back in) and head outdoors to fill all the feeders!
There is a lot of activity today. What is it about snowfall that brings out the juncos so thickly? Is it that they love to scratch around in the snow? Or is it that we just don't realize how many of them are out there until they show up so perfectly against the bright white of a brand new snowfall?
The house finches and goldfinches are also feeding, but not as heavily as the juncos. I've seen the WB Nuthatches, but not the RB. No woodpeckers so far, but the male cardinal did a quick fly-through while I was filling feeders! And of course the four legged bushy tailed guys are all over the place!
The house sparrows are loving the window feeder. One hunkers down on each side of it, up against the window, and seems to stay there for hours. Intruders who try to get into the spot are rapidly dispatched of! And if you dare to leave your spot there, don't be thinking it's going to be there waiting for you when you get back!
