 o
Dove behaviour

We have had doves coming to the feeder each year and never noticed this behaviour before. There is one dove, and it always seems to be the same one, who 'challenges' any larger bird that lands on the feeder. The feeder is flat and we get blue jay and woodpeckers there and also small birds like sparrow, finches and chickadees. The dove seems to like sitting up there. He/she doesn't seem to mind the smaller birds but once a larger blue jay or woodpecker lands on the feeder, the the pecking starts until they leave. On another occassion I also saw 4 doves chasing a woodpecker. I didn't think doves were aggressive but now I'm not so sure. What would make them do this? Marg

RE: Dove behaviour

I have seen mockingbirds behave this way often, but never morning doves. Perhaps you have something unique going on here.

I don't know what's going on with him/her but it's really funny to watch sometimes and at the same time it's weird. Marg
