A Lucky Birding Week!

Posted by corunum (My Page) on

This past week I saw 3 new breeds (to me) and thought some of you might like to see them too:

Harlequin Ducks - Sachuset Wildlife Refuge, Middletown, RI - they were almost 400ft away:

The first Yellow-bellied Sapsucker at my feeder:

And, today, a female Northern Cardinal considered 'leucistic' with her white head. Leucism is fairly rare in birds. I think she's lovely.

Kindly,
Jane

Nice. I always feel like I've had a good week when I see a bird that's new to me. Did you see the Hummingbird in the 'White Hummer' post? The site says it's albino but I think the bird would have pink eyes if it were a true albino. I think its a leucistic Ruby Throat.

Very interesting birding week you had there, Corunum! The pictures of the ducks are pretty decent considering they were so far away.
