Is barley good for birds?

I saw barley on sale the other day and it got me to wondering if barley would be good for the birds. I cook with it quite often and always have some left over. I suspect that since they can eat rice and pasta they should be able to eat barley to. Marg

there used to be an old wives tale about birds eating rice a wedding
and it swelling up in the birds.
I grew up on a farm and we grew wheat and oats and barley not wet enough for rice. all the animals and birds thrived on soaked grain and we fed it to the chickens all the time. and the doves and sparrows cleaned up the spilt grain in the fields after harvest. I also cook a lot with barley in soups and casseroles and my backyard birds get the leftovers. I always have water for them and have never had a problem.
