A drop off in cardinals

During the winter, I was visited by a flock of up to a dozen cardinals. They usually show up early in the morning or before sunset.

This month, I notice a sharp drop-off in cardinals. Can I assume that the cardinals are territorial and I should expect to only see a few from now till winter?

RE: A drop off in cardinals

Your resident pair is probably already establishing nesting territory, but since they tend to feed early and late they are easy to miss.
They raise 2-4 broods a year, around here they bring fledglings to the BOSS feeder as late as early Nov.

This Point-and-shoot photo of a fledgling eyeing the suet feeder was taken Oct. 31, 2006.
