First Redwings! Northern sign of spring..

They're back for me in southern Ontario. Sitting high in my walnut, still too shy to go for the seeds. They'll figure it out..here's a shot from last year..(please excuse Mr. Grackle..he knows a good thing when he sees it!

Also saw two flocks of Tundra Swans flying overhead today. Breathtaking. (Couldn't get the camera out fast enough though).

Red wings have been increasing in numbers in my yard. They are now the most common birds.

for some reason the males return here first and then the females they nest in april and have two hatches spring and summer. I see them mostly around lakes and ponds and cattails around the springs. but they flock to the feeders here and bring their young ones too, I usually hang a combination platform and hopper feeder in a different tree further from the house for them. They will eat the milo and millet and cracked corn there and don't bother the other birds too much near the house. except the young fledglings try everything. In the fall they all disappear and are gone again till spring. there were two males here early this morning before daylight checking things out.
