Different predator guards - pros and cons

Hello all! I finally did a webpage showing the various types of predator guards and their pros and cons. See photo by Ron Kingston of the wobbling stovepipe guard, which is one of the most effective. Instructions here:http://www.sialis.org/baffle.htm

Remember that
- No predator guard invented to date is 100% effective against all predators in all situations. Know which predators you're dealing with to prevent attacks. A combination of guards may be required to protect against multiple predators.
- If boxes are mounted near or under trees or fences, climbing predators may be able to gain access to boxes from the roof despite pole mounted guards. Cats can jump as high as 6 feet to get on a nestbox roof.

Great, informative page, thanks Bet! One thing I was confused about at first was how high to mount the wobbling stovepipe guard. The PMCA recommends it be at least 4 feet high, so that is what I now do. It has always worked for me (so far). I think Purple Martin landlords and Bluebird enthusiasts can learn a lot from each other.

The page at http://www.sialis.org/baffle.htm says the baffle needs to be at least four feet off the ground. I think i got that from the inventor, Ron Kingston.

Thank you for pointing that out. I know I've read that page more than once. I built my wobbling stovepipe guards off of instructions from that page, and yet I must have missed it.

I think I added that info after I got a question about it!
