5 blue eggs in the nest

Spring is finally here in SE Texas. There are 5 blue eggs in the nestbox. One curious thing. The male bluebird will not let the chickadees build in a second nestbox. They nested peacefully in the backyard last year - the bluebirds in one box and chickadees in the second. Could it be that it is just a different male bluebird? He keeps chasing the chickadees away.

Congrats Linda! I think you are the first to report such good news.

I had the very same scenario last season with the blues in one box, and the dees in another and they got along just fine. My dees have started building in the "blue's" box and Mama and Daddy Blue are guarding this box like crazy!

I bet when your female starts incubating, the male will focus his attention on her and allow the dees to do their own thing. Please keep us posted.

Congratrulations!
We've got a nest ready for eggs here but she's taking her sweet time! Wonder if the cold weather has had anything to do with it. She started builing earlier than last yr but we ahd eggs this time last yr too... soo...
Hope all goes well with your brood!

We had a cold front with rain today. Predicted low tonight is 35 degrees. Yikes! Hope she stays warm.

An update on the dees' nestbox: found a wasp nest and removed. Hope the dees continue to build.

Spring is here is southern Alabama too! Yesterday when I was putting water in the birdbath, the blues started dive bombing me. I looked inside the box and there were 5 beautiful eggs. Boy..was I suprised! I am so excited. The only question I have is...How many days until they hatch? I hope it is not to early for them. I have never had blues in the box this early. Last year the dees had the box first. I am really suprised that they didn't come back this year. I will keep everyone posted on the out come of this nest.
