Do bluebirds mind being anywhere near dogs?

| I am putting up bluebird houses (2) soon; but thought I would run this by folks who are experienced: do bluebirds mind dogs in the general area? Does anyone have a dog and bluebirds nesting? We have a lively Wheaten Terrier who barks, always inside her fenced yard; we plan to put the nestboxes up outside that yard, but I'm wondering if seeing her running around and barking will keep the bluebirds away - or whether they probably won't care, if the area otherwise looks good. As long as you give space between the fence and the nestbox you should be fine. You need to allow at least 10 feet anyway, to prevent climbing predators such as cats, raccoons, etc., from reaching your birds. I have scotties and my birds aren't bothered by them in the slightest.

| I agree with Kathy. I have my bluebird feeder about 13 feet from my dog fence, and the birds quickly learned that the dog can't get out. The Blues and other birds just ignore my yappy Yorkie now. They fly up into a tree if I come out in the yard, but also ignore me if I'm behind the fence. |

| Thanks a lot, that is reassuring. I didn't want to go through putting the poles and boxes up if the dog would just upset any birds that were interested...she is a barker! I appreciate your feedback- Thanks! |

| I don't think it's an issue melrose. I have a fenced yard, and my BB box is inside that yard. I also have 2 little dogs who are often out in the yard. Additionally, between all of the neighbors who border my property, there are 13 more dogs!! The Blues just carry on as if they never notice. :o) |
