Unhatched eggs

Posted by renee1958 (My Page) on

One of 4 eggs hatched 3 days ago. I monitored the eggs and 1 was laid each day.

I should assume the remaining 3 will not hatch?

My question is should I remove the eggs or let the parents handle it?

Thanks, Renee

RE: Unhatched eggs

Hi Renee,

It begins to look like the other 3 may not hatch... sorry. But if they are whole and uncracked, (not leaking)you might wait just a bit longer to remove them.
Is the 1 hatchling doing ok? ... being fed?

We have had 1 dud egg still in the nest after fledging 2 seasons ago. No harm came of it being in the nest. And we've heard of some eggs hatching quite later than 2weeks after incubation began.

Best luck to you and your Blues,

Kenn

Thanks Kenn,

I don't think the others will hatch either.

The one hatchling is doing great. It is being fed and watched over by Mama, Daddy and 4 brothers and sisters from the first nesting. I see them perched on the light line near the box about every day. Mama is feeding it faithfully and it looks like its thriving

Don't know If the baby hatched from the 1ST egg or the 4TH either way I will remove them by Tuesday If nothing happens.

Are the parents capable of removing unhatched eggs? It has been so hot here! I would hate for the remaining eggs to crack and spill out in the nest.
