Question about Fledging - New Issue

| After such a happy morning when my little blue finally fledged after 3 long days, I have a new worry. Please put my mind at ease. Baby blue fledged about 7:45 a.m. today. I've been at the house most of the day and I can hear him calling from what seems like a long distance. I'm assuming it's my bird because it sounds just like a newly fledged baby calling for its parents. I told myself its probably another baby somewhere. Well, just a few minutes ago, momma blue came to the nest box with mealies for her baby and was surprised to find him gone. She looked around. Flew to a nearby tree. Came back to the box. She didn't seem to know he fledged. Will she ever be able to find him. He's been out of his nest box for about 7 hours now. Is there any hope for him? Will they find him? Please tell me yes. I went from a super high this morning to another low this afternoon. Again, I'll ask this question. Is this behavior normal? Should I worry? |

Sorrry I didnt see this sooner. 1> your hubby saw the baby leave the box...did it go up to a tree limb or down on the ground? Wont even get to # 2 until you go out and look under bushes and trees if it went down...If it went down and you find it and it can not fly, put it in a bucket or box with a towel or in bird cage and run back in here for help.....right now you need to be sure the baby is not on the ground. If it went UP then you are done. Very common for the parent to return to the box with worms after the babies leave. |

| Hi Lisa, Yes, he saw the baby fly over to a fence. We do know it could fly. He also said he saw the daddy or mommy flying around over by the fence where the baby was. But then the baby took off somewhere and he didn't see where it went or the daddy. I guess all is well. I never saw the parents return to the empty nest before with worms. But I don't watch 24-7...although I think I probably could. I feel better. Thanks. |

| If he is calling, the parents, like you, know where he is. Don't worry, he'll be fine. |

I have seen parents coming to the nest box with mealies as a matter of habit. After the 2nd day, they don't do that any more. michelle |
