babies fledged today....I don't know where they are?

Today I peeked in the hole of the blue bird house and did not see any babies. I opened it up and they were gone! I didn't expect them to fledge for another day or so. Problem is, I don't know where they are? No sight of them in my yard. I have seen mom and dad several times perching on my neighbors fence two houses down. Would they have gone that far? They have NO trees!!! I assumed they would go into my tree. I am very dissappointed. This was my first set of blues and I wanted to watch them as a family. I just purchased 500 mealworms last night!

I hope your bluebirds DO bring their babies to your yard. I think I read that once they fledge it could be a couple of weeks before the parents bring them from the trees to the feeder.

I am new to bluebirding and read this site often to learn.

Howdy! Many Bluebirders don't get to see the babies go for a few years. I am sure you will get to join the "I saw them fledge" club soon! Do you have a somewhat wooded area near? You say you thought they would go to your "tree" meaning you only have one? The parents will have guided them to the safest nearby spot with lots of tree cover. It must not be to far off since you have seen them on the fence. Keep the meal worms out and they will bring the babies down in a week or two.

They are really hard to see. What I do is watch the parent birds, and listen. When they land in a tree, you can hear the babies begging for food which makes it easier to locate them. You may need a good pair of binoculars though.

Most of our babies haven't have taken a couple of weeks to 'return' to the yard. We keep providing mealworms for Mom and Dad. Sometimes they disappear for a short while but often come back first. When they are feeding you can watch to see where they fly off to as Kendra said. Our last brood came back after 2 days and kept coming back almost daily for a few weeks!
I'm sure you'll get to see them again.
