RE: Season Summary

It's too early to give a season summary for me yet. I still have Blues incubating a third nesting. But I can give what's happened so far. Blues had two successful nesting attempts with five babies fledged from each nesting. TRES laid 6 eggs and successfully fledged 6 chicks. I also have Carolina Wrens nesting that are due to fledge in 5 days. This has been a great year so far, with no losses yet.

RE: Season Summary

Well it's good to hear somebody still has nesting going.

Most years I don't have nesting go into August. Usually it ends for me near the end of july.

And for some odd reason every pair I witness I've never had two full successful broods in my boxes. 08, 09, 10 seasons all had only 1 successful brood in my boxes. last year I had a pair nest once out of my boxes then they had the 2nd brood which was successful in 1 of my boxes. This was my 4th season and I have yet to have a 3rd brood occur.

RE: Season Summary

Since this is the first year Bluebirds have used my boxes, I can't say this is usual or unusual for this area. I was surprised at this pair starting so soon, and I'm surprised that the female has laid a third clutch. It seems too late in the season to me, but only because I've never had any other cavity nesters still nesting at this time of year. The Black-capped chickadees were always done this late in the season.
