 o
fledge today!

It is 113 F here right now, and two of the four blues have fledged that I've seen. It is so hot a hummingbird landed on the back of a lawn chair in a shady corner of the porch and just sat there about ten minutes. All the birds are staying right in the area of grass where we had been running the sprinkler for them.

I went by the box to get to my car and the dad rushed over and was very protective, so I'm assuming somebody is still in there.

Ah sadly they didn't all make it out. Lost 2. Will go empty /clean the box this evening, had to go to a funeral this morning so don't quite have the heart for a second one right now. This is the first time we've had any not make it (after hatching anyway).
I'm sure being in the shade helped, just not enough. Will try to do a heat shield next summer. All the same, there were twelve successfully fledge altogether this season.

So sorry that you lost two. Too sad. Big sigh.
