We are actually going camping!!!!

Finally at last !!
I mentioned here a few months back, several I think, that we haven't been camping for years. We camped one or two times a year back in our childfree days, used to go on arranged bicycle camps - drive there then go on bike tours around the area - great fun even in the rain. We've camped once with the kids, about 8 years ago.

The kids and I are going, hubby is piking out and we are meeting up with my brother, sister, her family and a few of their friends at a campsite about 2 hours from here. Most are going on Thursday, we have plans that day so are heading up on Friday. We don't need to take much, a tent, bedding and food is about all, the others are all seasoned campers and everything is on hand.

It's a holiday weekend here, well kind of, Thursday is the public holiday but alot of employers allow their staff to take the Friday off as well. The campsite is on the edge of Lake Macquarie so there will be swimming, I might even give waterskiing a try too.

(sigh) that sounds wonderful, Cheryl. As I gaze out onto my view of snow, snow and more snow, camping seems like it's a million miles away. Hubby and I have been thinking about going from a tent to a pop-up (tent trailer) and have been doing a lot of 'net research lately, so have been thinking about camping a lot in the last couple weeks. I only entered this world of camping last year, and wasn't certain how I'd enjoy it, but I can't wait for this year's trips to start.

Have fun.

No chance of snow here, hot and humid here. I didn't tell the kids but they might have guessed from our shopping trip today. Was looking for Aqua shoes, we found them and have each got a pair. I've been told the water is suitable for swimming but shoes should be worn due to a crustation in the water with a spine on it's back. Also have been told that there are no leeches at this place BUT the last time they were there, there had been reports of a bullshark spotted in the lake. Yes it's a seawater lake. At least if we don't want to we don't have to go in the water then there's no chance of being eaten. There's no bears over here, I don't think I'd want to go to sleep in an area near bears.
I also went looking for a billy, we do have some but I doubt that we will be allowed to have a campfire. I'm only taking simply cooked and carried foods. Maybe some bacon, eggs and pancakes for breakfast, cereal, bread, tinned foods. There's shops about 10 minutes away if need be and a seafood co-op too, I'm looking forward to a big meal of prawns.

I'm puzzled! just what the heck is a "billy"? And, where is NSW? Australia? Also, why would anybody go near the water, if there were sharks in it?
I'll send you my story about camping with bears if you'd like to read it! It is funny, not dangerous!

A billy is a tin that you boil water in to make tea. Yes I am in Australia.
Well the trip had a few hiccoughs, first I missed the turn-off and had to go the long way around the lake to get there. Then my car was overheating, turns out the water pump went. So had to leave that by the side of the road in a strange town and get ferried by friends to the campsite. Hubby towed the car home on a trailer the next day. The kids enjoyed themselves, swam lots. My son went out on the tubes behind the boat, I didn't end up doing it. The only other concern is sunburn, my son was taken fishing on my sister's inlaw's boat on the last day and they left before I could smother him with sunscreen and get his hat. He said he put a little on in the boat, but by the looks of it he missed spots. He blistered on the same place on each arm and his nose - I'm pretty sick about that. His nose looks awful - it had been the smallest blister but he scratched it.
But otherwise we had a really good time and will do it again.
