Bug Repellents

| Well, it's about that of year to start thinking about getting all the gear together and making sure all is set for the first outing.
My favorite repellent products so far have been Sawyer, I especially like their 20% timed release DEET. It's been a very effective and pleasant product to use. I've found the timed release DEET products much better then just the regular formulas.
Anything new out there that I'm not aware of?

Dale, Consumer Reports top-rated the Ultrathon LOTION (not the spray). It is now available at Walmart. Brian |

| Thanks Brian for e-mailing the chart. I've not tried this Ultrathon lotion. Have used their aerosol in the past and that does a good job but liked the Sawyer better in that the later was more pleasant to use. In the past I've used some stronger DEET concentrated formulas and it actually burns my skin (not Ultrathon) and since there has been debate as to DEET concentrations and health issues, I like the time released formulas best - less DEET used and one application lasts longer. | Hi Dale, The Ultrathon is also timed release. If you need protection for that long (13 hours) you will actually be exposed to less DEET than if you used the Sawyer's twice. If you're only out for 6 hours or so, one application of the Sawyer's would have the lesser amount of DEET. Brian |

| Brian - there was another product on that chart you sent me that I was going to ask you about ... (can't believe I just deleted the chart!), anyway, did you see that timed release product that had just 15% DEET and still had 6 hours of protection? Dale |

| It was BugOut, actually 7 hours of protection. and costs less than 1/4 what Sawyer's costs, and less than 1/10 what Ultrathon costs. |
