| i just read a thread all about using a converter to run an electric fence off a car battery. unfortunately the main goal was to run a boom box. so...
i want to run an electric horse fence...while i drive my horses down the alcan highway. does anyone know what i need...and what i need to do to run it...so my car will start ...after using a 12 v battery to run the electric fence for 5-7 hours? |

Well, that might be a bit tough to figure out, but--i'd say you'll need a very long electric cable to power the electric fence charger, especially while driving down the Alcan Highway! And, how fast do your horses run? A second battery, charging by the alternator thru a diode, which prevents current from going the wrong way, might have to be used in the setup. Another way might be to have a large trailer, with a tread-mill in the floor, driving a large generator, or alternator, which would then keep a bank of batteries charged, which in turn would power the electric fence with a long extension cable! distance you could drive limited by how much cable you could haul, and dispense! I think yer best bet would be to stay home, eat the horses, and wait fer spring! ;o) From the educated mind of Rusty Jones |
