dome tent

Ok, so I've bought a new dome tent for $20, and it has no instructions AT ALL.

I've worked out most of it, but there are these 4 cords and pegs left over.
I think they are supposed to be used for windy weather to add support ?
Do they run through the nylon loops ( can't see where else they go ) ?
Do they splay out in all directions (like an A-frame tent) , or do you set them up opposite to the prevailing wind ?

Do you possibly have a square of canvas left over too. Ours has a square that goes over the top of the tent with 4cords and pegs.

Hey John,

Glad to see you are going thru a "dry run" of the set up of your tent! I would agree with oaklief. From my experience what you have left-over could be for the rain fly. Is there mesh at the top of the tent or nylon? If it's mesh, then you are missing a rain fly piece. You can remedy this by getting a small piece of nylon with 4 gromet holes from most boating supply places. Use the cords to attach the nylon to the tent. Make a measurement with lots of overhang. If this doesn't seem to help, send me a couple of digital photos of the tent and the left-over pieces and I'll try to assist further.

All the best,
Tim

No, it's got a rain fly with it's own clips on elastic lines.

These are four pegs and nylon ropes like you used to get with A-frame tents.

Hmm...unlike an 'A' frame the dome tents are pretty wind worthy. If there is no obvious place that they attach and the rainfly and floor are secure then you should be OK. Treat these as extra parts. :-)

John, is there some kind of loop on each "spine" - where the poles go thru? Well this is actually where the rain fly hits the poles on the main tent, usually has a tie under the fly or velcro to hook the fly to the main tent poles. the cords are tied thru there and then staked out, hold the rain fly away from the main body of the tent..my one 9x7 coleman has these (4). the old 8x8 colemans I have just had them on the sides (2)...same reason.
