Tent trailer stove mounting.

When we had a tent trailer, it came un-equipped, except for the beds, mattresses, and little else!
I had bought it new, that way. Then i built-in a removable table top, bench seats that doubled as storage areas, and a way to use a stove top i had bought, to cook either inside or outside, using the propane bottle, with out removing the bottle from the frame.
Most of the tent trailers sold now-a-days come fully equipped, but in case you find one not so equipped, let me know and i'll send the information as to how i did it.
(We were operating on a shoe-string back then, but my wife always managed to keep us in camping and out of the Poor-house!)

| I would love to know how you did it. I have a no frills pop-up and last October for our Halloween campout the weather turned downright ugly (sleet, high wind, and freezing cold). When I could keep our outdoor stove lit, I was too cold to tend to cooking detail. An indoor option would have been terrific. We had fun anyway but......things could have been easier. My camper does have the propane bottle on the tongue and I definetely qualify for 'shoe string budget' fixes. My camper has the requisite table and benches and also a built in counter that runs parallel to one bunk with storage underneath but I have some extra space if needed (where the original cooler would have been - long gone) Thanks in advance for your plans. |

Say, i'll need an e-mail address to send the drawings! and, the plans will come from "ahammitt" which is the resident e-mail program on our computer, and which is also my wife's name. I will not give, sell, save, or do anything with your address except send the plans. I built the stove mounting so we could either cook indoors, or outside under the awning, with a metal flame deflector between the stove and the screens on the side of the trailer. You'll have to get a long hose with quick connects to use the stove with your front mount bottle. I would run the hose inside thru a screen area to cook inside! There is no charge for the plans! |

| Is it possible to find such a no-frills pop up camper these days? We are considering buying one, but all the ones I see are fairly well equipped with AC, showers, potties, stoves and grills, etc. We love tent camping, and one of the reasons I love it is for the no-frills aspect of daily living. Primitive, yet comfortable. I like the rustic living (although I do need a clean shower house and flush toilets nearby!) Before looking at them, I had never been inside a popup, and was surprised to see that it was more than just a way to keep sleeping bags off the ground. I liked what I saw, but I'm hesitant spend so much money on options that I don't think we'll ever use. The price of new ones is outrageous!!!! And all those bells and whistles! I feel like I would be betraying my love of primitive camping! However, my husband feels differently. Sitting inside a tent with two toddlers for a hour during a downpour helped shake him of my opinion!!! I've priced used popups, and there seems to be some good deals to be had, but I still would rather chose something that has the least amount of frills. I just know I wouldn't use them! Can these types be found? (I also keep thinking that if we're going to be spending a few thousand dollars on some nice toy, I'd rather get new furniture for our living room!!!! (LOL!!)) Thanks! mozy |

| Mozy - it is possible to buy a "sort-of" bare bones popup camper these days (I have one!). Over the years I've been downsizing just for the fact that less weight and size is better for getting back into primitive sites. Now, mine did come with a 3-burner cook stove, L/P tank, an itty-bitty sink (which I like!), a built in ice box - which I removed and made the area into a large cabinet for storage space. Have no shower or built in pottie, no furnance, no refrig and no A/C. Now you can get into a small popup camper like this (8'box), brand new, at the right time of year (and off e-Bay) for in the neighborhood price of $3,000.00 - considering some of the larger ones that have all the whistles & bells are going for over $12,000.00, not a bad price.
