Newbie - to this forum and camping!

Hi another newbie here, I came across this forum whilst trying to find out some info on camping. I have always wanted to go camping for as long as I can remember and was envious of friends who had gardens that they could camp in! Anyway, I'm based in the UK and am currently putting together a list of what we need if we decide to go camping this year. "We" consists of me, my partner and a dog (labrador) but we are thinking of getting a larger tent than what we currently need since we hope our family will expand in the near future...

I am wondering whether or not we need to get one of those portable toilets or whether we should just use the toilet blocks on site (I'm the sort of person who will need to use the loo in the night - lol). Does anybody have any experience with these? I also wondered how/where you empty them(!).

Any advice gratefully received - TIA.

Well, as for a portable "Loo", we have here stateside, several types of portable terlets (Loos')which are practical. the bottom section is the waste container, and the upper part holds the seat, and possibly a small water container! We had one in our tenting days, but i've forgotten most of the details, except one! That is the feeling you get when you have to carry that lower container to the dump station! And, you can't dump it down a camp terlet-it has to be the trailer dump station!(at least it did 40 years ago)
So, that said, here's what to do: In the internet, go to camping world. this is a camping products company on-line. In this site, you will find a glorious assortment of things to buy for tent camping! And, they will probably ship it to you, but i'm not sure of another country! At the least, you'll learn what is available!
Keep in touch. I'll try to help you get acquainted with camping, again!

What sort of camping are you looking for? Camping ranges from staying in cabins that are nicer than some apartments to heading off into the middle of nowhere, with no facilities apart from what you bring. So, what do you want to be there?

* Lodging
* Electricity
* Water
* Sewage
* Showers
* Parking (and if so, for how big of a vehicle)

Etc.

Once you know that, we can talk about what gear you'll need. :)
