(?) for Popup owners:

I am a 47 year old husband and father of 7, and have been a camper since I was 5. (1967 Apache Pop Green Canvas over Gold aluminum box)
I spent 18 years as an mechanical engineer in the automobile industry, which, needless to say, at this point and time is not a favorable career.
I have been working a tent/popup concept for about 7 years now, and before I make my first prototype I would like to be able to gather some Voice of the Customer information.
I have a few (?) for Popup owners:
A) How long did you tent camp before making the jump?
B) What was the deciding factor in making the jump? (time to get off the ground, camping experience when it rained etc.)
C) When you finally made the jump, what was the make / model / New or used / cost / Year
D) Did it meet your expectations?
Thank you so much for your time ???

A. Five years. B. to get off the ground. Wife couldn't sleep well on rocky ground, and rain was always a problem. C. First tent trailer was a well used really old Nimrod. Was the 20th one built, didn't win the oldest trailer contest run by Nimrod! Second Nimrod was new. bought it from dealer where i worked. Was a stripped down model, but i built in the table, and storage seats, and even built in a gas stove, so we could cook inside when it rained! I also made the stove insert to be used outside, under the awning, if weather was nice. Cost around $2000, in, around 1965. Didn't have a fridge-too expensive! Towed with a 1962 Chevy V/8 station wagon. Went all over, including a trip to Dallas, Texas one summer! |

I have a few (?) for Popup owners: A) How long did you tent camp before making the jump? I had tent camped about 3 years, DH didn't even use a tent. B) What was the deciding factor in making the jump? I was tired of sleeping on the ground and waking up all stiff. Also had to pack so much gear into the car I wanted an easier way to keep it all together. C) When you finally made the jump, what was the make / model / New or used / cost / Year I think it was 1991, we bought a Starcraft Star Lounger with 2 king slide outs and 2 tables that made double beds. It worked very well with our 2 girls and the friends they brought with them. It was new and I think it was $3,800. D) Did it meet your expectations? When the girls grew up it was actually too big for the two of us, and our goals changed. We sold it and bought a small C-class RV that is actually smaller than the pop up (when it was opened). But we now do a lot of cycling and it is so much easier to take to events. Having the shower available after a long bike ride is sure nice too. beverly |
