Ever had a tick?

Everyone talks about them, I was wondering if you ever got bit by one? I got bit by 2 this weekend. One I got right away the other after checking ourselves and a hot shower a day later I felt him burrowing into my back. Got him but a mouth piece was stuck and Dr. had to remove. I got a tetnus shot and am on antibiotics. I am not at all squemeish but let me tell you when a living bug is burrowing himself into your back, and no matter how hard you pull he wont come out, a person gets a little grossed out. Now I have to check for the bullseye. Oh hooray. That will teach me not to change my shirt in the woods (like an idiot I had the spare tied around my waist- don't do that!)

Ticks? This country boy has no doubt had over 100! Just add a bit of solvent like kerosene to get the little guy to back out. Then, place him (or her) in an ash tray and light 'em up with a match until it "pops". Done deal! :-)

Why use kerosene? We tried alcahol but it did not work. Did you ever worry about Lyme disease? I have been a country girl for all of my 33 years and never got one untill last week. I cant beleive you have had over 100, crazy!!

I have dealt with hundreds, both on me and my dog. It does not sound like your tick was in you long enough for the spirochetes of Lymes to be injected buy the tick, better safe than sorry tho. Best way to remove a tic is to get a good pair of flat head tweezers, slanted ones work great too, but the needle nosed ones are not great. Get as close to the skin as you can and grab the tick as clos to your skin as possible. Squeeze and pull a bit and they will come right out.

I rarely used kerosene, I just generally pulled the tick out and lit it up. Hundreds of ticks are no big deal if you grew up in a wilderness area and hiked, hunted, camped and fished whenever you could as we did! Our cedar-swamp environment was apparently a tick and chigger wonderland. Chiggers - now those are PESTS! :-)

The best way to remove a tick is to remove its air. Put a small glob of vasoline over it. Wait about 5 min and it will come out, gasping for air, at that time, grab it and kill it.

I have heard people saying that since it lives off of your blood it can go with out air. This is untrue. It drinks your blood, it doenst breathe your blood.

many - but the kind that can give you lyme's is a deer tick - so small it is almost undectable. So if you could see it and feel it you are not indanger of getting Lyme's - rocky mt. spotted fever is a totally different thing. Did the dr tell you that you may be open to Lyme's?

RE: Ever had a tick?

We live in an area that has lots and lots of ticks. Don't even need to be out in the woods! Lymes is common. One thing you don't want to do is stress the ticks before pulling them-- putting vaseline, kerosene, all that kind of stuff can increase your chances of being infected. Yes, the deer ticks that carry the disease are very small and sometimes hard to see. But, now there are some questions about other ticks carrying it. You can also save the tick in alcohol to verify the type. Also, keep in mind not all people experience the bulls eye rash. If you develop flu like symptoms that can also be an indicator.

Needless to say I can't tell you how many ticks I've had! Our local state park is filled with them and unless it's a really cold winter they stay pretty abundant!

According to info from the county health department you want to only use tweezers, grasp as close to the head as possible, and then gently pull the tick out.

In Sweden ticks are rather common in high grass areas..The advices is to wear white clothes with long pants put down in the socks..then watch body and clothes carefully when you go to bed..
It isn´t dangerous if mouth is stuck when you take it away,,it disappears by itself.
You should not put butter or something on it so it may womit..they are easy to take avay with a pincette or a special tic-take-away tool which doesn´t pinch it....
