Planning trip to Idaho/ND/MT/UT Campgrounds?? Dog Day Care?

| My husband, two dogs (whippets) and I are planning a two-and-a-half week trip next June/July through North Dakota and Montana to North Fork Idaho, then loop down to Utah Park City area, then back home. Does anyone have a favorite RV campground they use? We favor natural beauty and privacy over bells and whistles.
Also, any info would be appreciated on reputable places out west where we could do a doggy day care thing so that my husband and I can hike in some of the places where dogs are not allowed. Any experiences you'd like to share??
We'll be traveling near Glacier National Park on the way out and they don't allow dogs on the trails, nor do some of the other areas we've read about.
Thanks in advance! |

| Oh, heck, just tie the dogs to yer camper, go on out hiking, let the folks back in camp enjoy all the barking that will surely go on, until you get back from yer hiking trip! And, you won't know how much they howled while you were away from camp, will you? Now, in as much as i like dogs, i don't think dogs or other pets should be taken along on trips! I do think they should be left at home, in a nice kennel, or dog boarding house, where they will not be subject to insect bites, falls over cliffs, attacks by other critters, or any other kind of thing that can be-fall a city raised dog or pet! The great out doors is daunting, what with the night sounds, etc. And, a howl all night dog will make you personna-non-grata very soon! (Ask me how i know this!) By: rustyj |

| Thanks for the input, rustyj. Only problem is, we love to hike with our dogs and normally do (on leash, of course). Most places here in the midwest allow dogs on the trails. They won't howl all night, because they'll be under the covers with us in the RV! ;-) |

| There's always room in the woods for dogs!!!! It's the humans that cause all the problems. |

Wild bears, coyotes, wolves, all kinds of nasty beasts, like dogs raised in homes! They think they are rather tasty, and will try anything to get to yer fine dogs! Here, where i live, near Pittsburgh, Pa., coyotes have come here to live, and to feast mainly on the large deer herds that have taken up residence in suburbia, what with all of the nice shrubs and plants we grow just for them! And, the stray cat population, which at times was getting out of hand, has fallen off to almost nothing, along with stray dogs, and even a few dogs chained out back! I suppose nothing will persuade you to leave the dogs at home, though! But, please, don't go away for the day, from yer camper, and leave the dogs tied outside of it! there's nothing worse than having to sit all day and listen to 2 dogs ("our babies") barking their fool heads off! Ask me how i know! And, there must be some other reason why they don't want dogs in the forests, and its not because they "water" the trees! I think its more because of thoughtless dog owners who don't carry a poop bag, or some other method of cleaning up after the dog does what dogs do in the woods! Also, i haven't seen any dog sitters advertised in camping magazines, but, you might find one out there someplace! Probably some terbaccy chewing, bib over-all, straw-hatted individual, who hasn't had a good meal in weeks, and will enjoy some tasty ribs, etc.! Have fun: Rusty Jones |
