Ladybug larvae abundant!

They are everywhere! At first I didnt know what they were, but I saw a Ladybug among them, and I thought, are these ladybug larvae? I live in Texas and I have been seeing the blue and yellow ones. I saw 1 or 2 pupas also! one was yellow with black spots, the others were dark... how many different species are there? Also, what are some good insect field guides? Are there different species of crane flies? Thanks

RE: Ladybug larvae abundant!

Many different species of both ladybug AND crane fly. The typical field guide will illustrate just a few, but is a very good thing to have when trying to learn about insects and their behavior. I like the Audubon Field Guide to North American Insects, and made it a required text for classes that I taught.

Don't expect any ONE book to tell or show you everything. Between a good guide or two (or three or four) and the internet, there's not much that you will not be able to find out about!

Here is a link that might be useful: Crane fly information
