There were three in one tree, all curled up like that. I looked but can't find the species.

| Alpha, I can't see your image, the URL is extremely long with special characters in it, it looks encrypted! There are several possibilities for this "inverse" type ladybug, I see them every year, but not as often as the red ones. Try Twice-stabbed lady beetle (note the white dots are reflections, not part of the beetle) or what's that bug and There are also melanic versions of ladybugs we commonly recognize. |

YEP! that's it! If you were curious about the pic, here it is.
A melanistic version wouldn't really make sense since there were three of them.... unless some sympatric speciation is going on and the melanistic ones stick with each other... |

| Right. And tonight I'm using a newer browser, pix show up fine, thanks for reposting, though. It is the twice-stabbed; the beetle pictured in the "what's that bug" link was another species with white on the thorax. |

| Oh no it wasn't your browser. when I first came here (and heck, even right now) there were red Xs. MSN is having some issues. |
