 o
wasp and termites

We are moving into a home with wood siding and there are wasp everywhere! With 3 young kids this is a big problem! What can I do? I am also afraid of getting termites. I would like to mulch my flower beds along the house, but afraid of inviting them in. What can I do to prevent them?

RE: wasp and termites

If termites are already in your area, then wood mulch products can create the kind of environment that appeals to them. Be sure to keep the layer of mulch right up next to your home very shallow, and make sure that it doesn't stay moist at all times.

Of course, any home located in a busy termite location should be under the care of professionals.

I'm going to guess that the wasps are collecting nesting material from your house. Keep an eye out for these nests and have them removed as you find them. You may find that the nests aren't anywhere on your property, though!

One spring, I was relaxing outside reading when a couple of busy wasps decided that my book would make excellent nest material. They'd come and munch tiny bits of paper from whatever page I was on and then fly away, returning again in about 5 minutes. A bit unnerving, but really cool, at the same time.
