carpenter bees

Hi, I usually hang out on the gardening board and know the importance of bees. These big fat fuzzy carpender bees are drilling perfect holes in my poarch columns and I can't discourage them. I've sprayed WD40 around the holes at a freinds suggestion but that did not work. I don't want to kill them, just make them fly away. Any suggestions?
