I saw an odd fly today...

I don't have a picture, but perhaps my description will sound familiar to someone. Or maybe you can point me in the direction of a website that might have pictures. My field guide was no help, and there aren't many fly pix on bugguide.net.

It was larger than a housefly — about the same size as a horsefly, and fairly light colored. Beige or light brown. Head like a horsefly. It had a large white spot at the base of each wing. Filling in the small space between the white spots was a small translucent sac of some sort. It looked like it could have been an egg case. This sac, or whatever I should call it, was greyish, and slightly rectangular.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Susan

We really need a picture. Many insects look so similar to other ones.
