Mystery Caterpillar

I found this strange looking caterpillar on a wild black cherry tree. It's got that katydid shape, so I thought it might be some type of slug caterpillar, but I can't find it in my books.
Anybody know what it is?

Thank you! I believe you're right. And it's also called the cherry dagger moth, which is what it's eating! Sherry |

| "takin' a stab" HAR HAR What would you have taken if it were a slug moth larva? |

I attached the waterpick that had the little cherry stem the cat was on back on the tree, and I noticed it wasn't on that leaf yesterday. All the webbing around it made me wonder if it was stuck on that one leaf, but obviously it wasn't. Now it can go ahead and do its thing outside. I found a little bitty one on my blouse yesterday (I'm always bringing in caterpillars on my clothes) so they must be common. MissSherry |

| Well, Larry_Gene, I guess you won't find Miss Sherry raising cabbage whites, huh? Maybe the Speared Dagger and the Cabbage White could have a party? Susan |
