What is this metallic little fly?

| I see them often, but don't know their name. It's about a quarter-inch long. I love the way the colors look close up.

| Nice image of the Long-Legged Fly, a beneficial predator of small, soft-bodied insects. Look for aphids and the like if you see a lot of these good guys. |

| Thanks, Rhizo! I always thought they seemed friendly. Yes, I'm sure the aphids that attempt to colonize on my roses keep the Long-Legged Fly quite busy (and full). |
