What are small white things on my hibiscus buds?

| I live in NY and bought hibiscus plants from home depot for the summer outside.... they seemed to be fine, but now a couple of them have these tiny white, skinny dots on the buds...a little under the leaf, but mostly on the buds(maybe some kind of egg or larvae)....these particular plants dont seem to put out blooms like the other hibiscus i have (same area, different container)...they do have a lot of buds on them, but lately have not flowered much...what do yoh think this is and is there anything i can do about it, preferably without chemicals, but i am willing to use them if i have to...thanks |

| I used to get something called white flies on my hibiscus. The eggs are under leaves & look kinda like a bulls eye & the undersides of leaves get hairy. On the buds maybe it's aphids. I've used alcohol in a spray bottle or a little dish soap & water in a spray bottle. Peg |

| Without an image or a better description of the situation, no one can suggest a treatment. Perhaps you can simply wipe these 'dots' away. Have you noticed any particular kind of damage? |

| the leafs are not really effected like peg says... they are mostly on the buds and because of this, the buds are not opening and the flowers are not blooming...on the plants that dont seem to have this, the flowers are fine...they came from the same place and are in close proximity,so i dont know why one is a problem and not the other unless its all a matter of time....i am going to try the alcohol mixture that peg suggested just in case...i figure it cant hurt............i have seen some flies (little 1/4 inch with greenish iridescent body and clear wings...not like a housefly at all), but i dont see any bullseye or big problems with leaves....if anyone has any suggestions or ideas, please let me know...this happened to my hibiscus last year as well..............carol |

| I suspect aphids. Squish 'em or wash them off. |
