Strange thin worm

| Tonight while sitting on my patio after a day of pouring rain, out of the corner of my eye on the carpet I spotted what looked like a thin vine twisting and turning in the breeze. Upon closer inspection I realized this thing was alive. I have never seen anything like it before. It was slightly thicker than a piece of hair and yellow in color. Stretched out I would say it would be close to 5 inches long. All it did was squirm and twist in the same spot, never moving forward or backward. I assume it is a worm of some type, but can anyone name exactly what it is? Weird! Here are two pictures I took of it. I know it's not exactly an insect, but I thought some of you might have some ideas.

| Perhaps horsehair worm, a nematode with the genus name Mermis. |
