RE: Ants

No ant specialist, but had my share of Carpenter ants in FL. They infested a sealed off wood stove duct in the ceiling and dropped through a hole where a screw had fallen out. It was right over the bed and it took me forever to figure out that the bites I was getting were from them. Ugh, I hate those guys.

I agree, carpenter ants

RE: Ants

how big are they? It does not look very big. Carpenter ants are quite large and will bite you. I can't tell from the picture. They look a bit like the most common ant we have around (CT)here which are much smaller than carpentier ants and are totally harmless.

I wish I knew the scientific name myself.

Do they bite?

The absolute worst ant that you never want to run into is a red carpenter ant we have in Connecticut. You can find these monsters in dead old trees. I used to have an ant farm and I wanted those ants because they are so enormous but they bite hard. I had a queen of that species once and she was one evil (censored!)!
