Ants eating my peach tree inside out!!

i have a peach tree thats probly on its last leg. theres these little red ants that started making holes in the main limb of the tree. i sprayed them with methothrin but that just made them move down to the roots.
my peach tree is hardly has any leaaves on it and has not produced peaches for 3 years.
someone suggested marygolds but i dont see how that would work with ants that would borrow into the grownd or live inside the tree. this tree is 40+ years old and is 10ft high.

The ants aren't eating your tree but may be using the hole as living space.
