ID Pleaz, A Diptera?

Seems to like hanging around my cucurbit vines. The wings have interesting white markings that make them appear to be in sections from a distance.

TIA,
Scott.

Is it small enough to be a fruit fly?

Mine are just a tad smaller than a Deer fly.

I'd say the wingspan is maybe 0.5". I found thier food source the other day. I saw 3 of them indulging on some bird poo that landed on a leave. They seem to be one of the most common insects I see in my garden nowadays.
