Please identify this Central Texas caterpillar

I found dozens of this caterpillar all over our giant Russian sunflowers a few days ago. They have a few variations from one individual to another, mainly being having either a red or a black head. I thought it might be a Gulf Fritillary, but the color/patterns is not exactly the same. There were also some smaller ones that had the same black barb/spikes, but their bodies were completely light orange.

Could it be a buckeye? They have considerable variation between individuals.

The Buck-eye pictures don't show red spots on the top, but its possible. Thanks for the potential id.
