Where are all the crickets?

| I live in Queens, which is in NYC. Every summer, I start to hear the crickets, katydids and other nocturnal insects by mid-July, around the 15th or so. Here it is now at the end of July and I've not heard a thing, it is quiet as a tomb at night!! We had rain almost every day in June and with the exception of a couple of rare days in April, have not had a day over 90 degrees. Perhaps some of these weather anomalies are impacting the songs of the nocturnal insects? Does anyone have any ideas on why it's been so quiet? |
