what kind of spider is this?

I know the picture is not to clear, but can anyone tell me what kind of spider this is? It looks like a black widow or red back spider, but I wasn't sure.

Not a Black Widow nor a Red Back.
It is a Wolf Spider (one of a pretty large and various group). This one appears to be a Carolina Wolf Spider (though, as you stated, the picture is less than showcase quality).

The shape of the abdomen here is elongated where BW and RB spiders are nearly round.

The stance of the spider, and the fairly "uniform length of legs" (comparing front legs to back legs) says this spider is more adept at scooting quickly across horizontal surfaces than negotiating a web structure,
