Help indentifying little brown eggs & bugs on Cassia, butterflies

This is the second time that I have noticed tiny brown eggs on my Cassia plants. They are so small that it looks like dirt on the leaves. I attached a picture-does anyone know what they are? I have only seen a few of these clusters.

I have also seen a few of the bugs shown in the second picture. They are the kind that hide from you--they move around the stem of the plant to hide from you as you move. Are these the bugs that laid the eggs?
I wonder if they are eating my butterfly eggs? I usually have a lot more cloudless sulphur caterpillars by now. This year I only have a few. I'm also having an ant problem so that could be contributing to the problem.
FYI I live in San Diego

These are cutworm or armyworm moth eggs. The caterpillars will not necessarily eat your cassia. The moths lay their eggs on a variety of surfaces, including on the outside of houses and other structures. When the caterpillars hatch, they disperse, usually into nearby grass or small tender plants, where they hide by day and feed by night.

cindy c,
Thank you for the info. So I looked up cutworms and armyworms and since my cassias are not to far from our new patch of lawn I think I will get rid of any of them that is see. Sounds like they can be pretty destructive!

Hello Bella,

Are these teensy little tannish white eggs? If so, I have found them many times on things.

I find them on my fig netting, laid along the strings and I've found them on laundry when I used to hang the wash out to dry. Several times, I've seen teensy little black caterpillar-looking things that resemble banana seeds (on the inside of the banana.)

I've been trying to find out what these eggs are for about three decades! I never knew if I should destroy them, or leave them be.

Thanks,

noss
