 o
trapdoor spider in my garden???

Hello. I found something interesting in my garden this morning. It was not there yesterday. Something dug out a 6" funnel last night and lined it with spider web. I posted a picture of it on my blog today.

Can anyone give me information on this critter? What the heck is down there? And should I leave it? Or is it dangerous/poisonous and should be removed.

I hope someone can help.

RE: trapdoor spider in my garden???

Your location is helpful when identifying an insect. If you suspect that it is a trapdoor spider, and it does sound like it could be, there is likely a TON of information on the web about these interesting creatures.

Trapdoor spiders, like all spiders, can bite when defending their territory or themselves and they do have venom. All spiders do. Trapdoor spiders in this country are not considered particularly venomous....a label that fits only a very few spider species in North America.
