Can you ID this insect

Can you ID this insect

I too need help identifying an insect. I found an insect a few years back at my mom's in Valdosta, GA. I've only seen it once. It's almost like a beetle, but not really. It's legs are a light orange-ish color. The body it black and it has a large red or dark orange dot on it's back. Can anyone help me? I have a picture of it on my webshots.... my name there is 1Nature3 in My Nature Shots album. If anyone could solve my curiousity, that'd be great!!!

So,have you find out what that insect is? I think I have the same one in my garden that eats melon leaves. It will fly away whenever I passed by that melon tree. Now my melon tree was gone before it grows up. I planted a new melon tree with just 2 leaves and has been eaten. I think this insect is the culprit.
