Prevent from earwigs-How to put the rocks around the foundation?

I am trying to prevent earwigs from entry for a long term instead of other short term methods such as insecticide, trap etc. So I intend to put rocks around the foundation of my house to prevent earwigs from entry (as well as check any cracks). Should I just put the rocks above the soil or dig up several inches and then put the rocks instead of the soil around the foundation? If I dig and remove the soil and then put the rocks instead of the soil, I will need more rocks. Is there any expert knowing what is the correct method to put the rocks around the foundation of a house to effectively prevent the earwigs from entry? In addition, what type of the rocks is better, a little big white decorative rock or river marble? Can you answer two questions above? Thank you?

Use something like pea gravel as a several inch deep mulch on the soil surface, extended at least a foot outward from the foundation. Also cut back all greenery to create an "airspace" between the house & the plants.

I saw two types of rock in the HD, a little big white decorative rock and small none white rocks. A lawn is in front of my house. 1) Do you mean the small rock is better than big rock to put on the foundation of the house and prevent the earwig from entry? 2) How about putting the sand instead of the rock, by the way? Can you answer two questions above? Thank you.
