What the heck is this thing?!

| Found this little critter today while helping my son catch insects for a school project. It was attached to the top side of a sweet gum tree leaf and I have never seen one before and I'm not even sure if it classifies as an insect. Anyone know what it is?

| First off, I'm sorry the image is so large! and secondly, I forgot to mention that I am in east central Georgia. |

| Does this thing jump, run, fly, or move around in some other way? If you can catch it, I'd like to see another image from a different angle. I have a feeling that this might not be a good shot of this critter. |

I think it is a slug caterpillar, family Limacodidae, although I can't take if farther than that. Good luck! Tucker |
