What is this cricket type insect -not camel cricket

Last night this large insect somehow got up on my deck. It is about 1 1/2 inches long with back legs similar to a cricket, small brown wings, really long abdomen and very large front legs that have 3 or 4 spikes. I am in southwestern CT at the NY border. I have never seen anything similar to this critter. Any help will be appreciated. I have tried to upload a few photos but all are too large filewise to post here. Anyone know of such an insect

What was the over-all color of the insect? It has very large front legs AND back legs? (Cricket legs are usually the most obvious physical characteristic.)

I'll be happy to look at the pictures if you send them directly to my email.

Sounds like a mantis to me - check the picture link and see how that fits - you might check Bug Guide for other mantis pictures.

Well, her description immediately brought the name of the insect to my mind, but I rejected it at first because I wasn't aware that MOLE CRICKETS were found in the northeast. As I told Dee, when she sent me her images, these little guys are the bane of Southern golf courses and lawns. There are several species of mole crickets; what Dee has found is probably the Northern Mole Cricket.

Would you look at those incredible digging utensils they have?? You wouldn't believe how powerful they are if you hold them in your cupped hand.
