What is this ball of bugs????

Besides the catipillar I saw last night I also found this strange ball hanging in a spider web, it looks alive, if that makes sense, not just a seed pod. Could it be a breeding apparatus for some eggs, spiders perhaps. I have lots of spiders in and around my garden, don't mind them at all as long as they don't bite me, I think most of those big ones are very pretty.

I always like to know if what I find are useful insects, if the birds will eat them, if the insects will do damage, any of that stuff. Seems the more I learn the more I see, it is another world under there! LOL

It's a spider egg sac, looks like that of one of the argiopes, or garden spiders.

Here is a link that might be useful: egg sac

That's it for sure. Well I must get out today and see if it has 'hatched' and look for moma spider.

Momma spider might already be in spider heaven. They do not live long after laying their bajillion eggs.

You need to do some research to see if the eggs overwinter in this egg sac or elsewhere. I rather suspect, but don't know, that they remain there until the warm temperatures of spring.
