Can't compare the two nest images because they show a different axis of the constructions. I assume the lower one had larval holes in it somewhere.

The common name of these wasps is "mud wasp".

Try searching:
mud wasp(s)
mud dauber(s)
sphecid
Sphecidae

The long vertical tubes are something else. I've noticed a large dark bee repeatedly going in between the shingles of my house, and there were long vertical tubes where the shingles were pulled away for remodeling.

The long tubes are mud daubers...as a matter of fact, all of your nests are made by mud daubers. If you break into the tubular nests, you will see that they are actually divided up into several chambers. Each will have a larvae inside, and paralyzed spiders or caterpillars (I forget which).

Here is a link that might be useful: Mud daubers

thank you! i thought mud daubers, but all three seemed so different. the bottom nest on the flat part of the wall did not hve any exit holes the last time i checked. it seems, taht the tubes which showed up last year did not hve any exits until this year.

on the top photo, the dark spots in the holes, are those larvae not sealed off yet? it is haard to tell by the photo, but there were things in there, but i didn't want to disturb anything.

daubers are ok, and i certainly have LOADS of spiders. i would prefer different smaler predatory wasps.
i did see a somewhat large blue-black wasp in the shed but not near the nests. unfortunately, i post before i search- my field guide has mud dauber as black and yellow. obviously there are different species, i tell myself...

thanks again!

When the larva hatches out into an adult wasp, there is debris left behind in the opened hole, but it could still be an active nest.
