| I keep ground beetles and camel crickets in my room as pets. They are fasinating subjects.
Has anybuddy else kept insects before. |

| As a kid I had a praying mantis (now that's a bug for you!) My dad caught him and we fed him flies and aphids. My dad was wise, however. He told us that the bug belonged outdoors and was only visiting for a few days! You can buy mantis egg cases from green suppliers; but having a couple of hundred larvae hatch indoors would be a bit much, don't you agree? |

All kinds of them. Mantids, Crickets, Grasshoppers, Beetles, Bees, Wasps Dragonfly / Damselfly nymphs, lots of different aquatic True Bugs ... Roaches. I have a couple of interesting suggestions. If you can find a source for Jerusalem Crickets get a couple. They are one of the coolest insects you will find. Don't keep two in the same tank, they are aggresive, and will fight. They are somewhat carnivorous, but will eat potato. Hercules Beetles, either Dynastes tityus, or Dynastes granti ... Grant's Hercules Beetle is impressive, and more energetic than the Eastern Hercules. Any of the Scarab Beetles. They are easy to feed. The huge Lubber Grasshoppers are very cool too. They can get aggressive with each other if the tank is to small. Walking Sticks if you have a rose bush, or other food source. Your choices of Ground Beetles, and Camel Crickets are good ones. I have to agree with the philosophy of Greeness' father ... keep them a short time if they aren't exotic to your area. If they are exotic ... please don't let them go. I have also kept a large variety of Tarantulas, and Scorpions. Centipedes, Vinegaroons, and Whipscorpions. |

If I could find some dragonfly eggs/larva, I'd probably raise them to adulthood. -Jmcat |

| I've raised house crickets, darkling beetles, and of course caterpillars/moths & butterflies. I am also looking into praying mantises but I'm not sure what to feed them when they're first born. |

| I've kept wolf spiders as "pets" quite successfully. They do only eat live prey so be sure you're able to supply it. I didn't keep them as long term captives. They do need to be outside doing their spider thing. |

| I like to keep all sorts of caterpillars, grasshoppers, and praying mantises. Last year, before autumn started, there was a praying mantis looking right up at me when I opened the front door, so I took it in and fed it crickets. I guess I prolonged its life a bit because it began to get cold outside. |
