Can someone please tell me what this is??

| I found this "thing" hanging from one of the stems on my tomato plant, it looks like it had some type of larvae inside of it at some point. Can anyone tell me what this could be? Click on the thumbnail to see larger image.

im no expert but my geuss.. it looks like a chrysalis/pupa meaning it will turn into a butterfly next spring |

Based on the ravaged tomato foliage in the background of the photo, I'll give you 10-1 odds that is a tomato hornworm, and they turn into sphinx moths. I've never seen a fresh chrysalis, but I can' imagine what else it would be. Mature hornworm chrysalis (chrysali?!) are brown and you'll find them in the soil. Keep us posted! |

| You're too late; the moth has already emerged. May be a pickleworm. Hornworms pupae are in the soil. Paul. |
