Ahhhhhhhhhh! It's that thing from Alien! Who's wad of hair is that all over the floor? Just kidding. That's a pretty interesting critter.

Is he upside down? How big is this critter? Sure as heck looks like a PEST to me, but would like to see another image, if possible.

Ok, I'm goin' with one of the 200 pseudoscorpion species in North America. Prolly brought it in with the firewood, eh?

RE: identification help

Yep. A pseudoscorpion. Nothing to worry about.

Could this be a crab louse? Not all lice feed on humans or live on humans. The one I had in my house was tan in color but looked about the same, very tiny too.

RE: identification help

That's a Psuedoscorpion, a harmless insectivorous arachnid. Other than a slight pinch from it's pinchers, that's about all it can do. It's not an insect, by the way, but it will eat insects. I have never found one here in SC, and I'm a bit surprised that this one was that far north, but with so many species in North America alone, it's not unreasonable. I just find REAL scorpions here, and they are NOT exactly harmless! Sharon McKenzie
